No Parking

This wonderful and over-size mural in Yeoville, Johannesburg has since been demolished, when the
building was upgraded and painted a staid colour of bland. The entire character of the neighbourhood
has changed radically since then, and I'm not even sure if the No Parking sign would even be there anymore.

Waenhuiskrans

Another image scanned from the archives - a view over the ocean at Waenhuiskrans in the Cape, South Africa.I like the simplicity of this composition- reducing the landscape to just a few elements.
Date: Sept '92 / Pentax Super-A, Pentax-A 24-50mm f4 / Fuji RDP 100 transparency film.

A scanned image from the archive - this is from a loose series I shot where I tried to reduce landscapes to basic geometric shapes.

aerial view over Jo’burg

I photographed the DC 3 from a Junkers leading closely, as we flew over Johannesburg at dusk.
Yes, we really CAN see the air we breathe here.
Date: June '94 .. Johannesburg; South Africa .. Pentax Z-1 .. Pentax-FA 28-105mm f4-5.6 .. Fuji RD 100

reach out, make contact

As the polar bear was swimming in his enclosure and repeatedly kicking himself away from the observation window, the boy lifted his hand to match it against the paw. This was a totally candid shot, and I simply lifted my camera to my eye and tripped the shutter instinctively.

Dalmatian

For the first image of this photoblog, I chose a scan from a transparency I shot of my dog I had back in South Africa - a lovable Dalmatian called Brakko. He looked apprehensive at the idea of being photographed so closely.
