I’ve received some questions about why I chose this particular image as
the representative image for my series of photography workshops.
Most people looking at this image wouldn’t immediately realize that there is flash involved. This image however, is typical of the way I work, and how I use flash to sweeten a scene. The thought process of how I got to this result, was explained on a previous blog posting - how I got from here …

This is only part of what I teach in my workshops - to simultaneously seamlessly blend available light with flash, and do so fluidly, adapting your technique to any scenario. Out of so many great photos, I don’t know why this one rates so high in your esteem. My eye goes directly to the ugly wreath, there is too much sky without detail, and the white car in the background creates another distraction. I know the technical reasons why the pic is good but from all of the other beautiful shots you’ve taken this one does not stand out for me.
Thank you by the way, for your great blog on your methodology. I have learned a lot. Still think you are great, but no too enthusiastic about this particular shot.
