workshop view: San Francisco

San Francisco was the second stop in the series of my workshops on lighting techniques.   For one of the practical sessions in the late afternoon, we went to Baker Beach.  After the sun had gone down, we practiced bouncing flash off a golden reflector to recreate that warm sunset glow. Thank you to Sarah and Jasper, our models who remained energetic even in the cold of the evening.

The practical sessions earlier on in the afternoon were held on the grounds of the Presidio.  During one section, each group took an off-camera speedlight in a softbox to work with a model. Here is my favourite image of Jasper from that session.

A big thank you to our group today.

I second that. It’s great when you find someone with the patience to mentor people AND with such knowledge too! I used to think I was Mr. Techno-Guy, but Neil YOU’RE the MAN!

I now have a new appreciation for my SB800……but not too much…..it’s just a piece of equipment!

Thanks Neil for a great workshop!

Third-ing what was said above. Thank you, Neil, for taking the time to explain (and in many cases, re-explain) in detail the concepts you were teaching. I’ve never had lighting explained in such a simple yet effective way.

Blog readers, if you’re thinking of taking one of Neil’s workshops, do it! It’ll be well worth your time.

What an awesome workshop! I can’t begin to tell you how inspiring the day was. I believe I’ve overcome my fear of flash -yea! Thank you so much Neil. I’m looking forward to purchasing your book when it’s released.

The class was great. I came home inspired to update my whole portfolio with more dramatic and well-lit photos. I was impressed with the “anyone can do it” approach to lighting and that it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. I can’t wait to try my gels and all the techniques I learned in the course. Thank you Neil! Good job.

Neil’s course sounds great! I would love to take it. Hopefully he’ll have a San Diego workshop available in the future . . . . :)
