Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II
The version 2 of this lens, is the updated lens with improved edge-to-edge sharpness. This zoom is one of those essential lenses for me, especially now that the optic quality of this lens is so outstanding.

| Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L |
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS |
Yes, I do actually own both these lenses. The question is always, which should you choose, the faster f2.8 optic without stabilisation; or the slower optic with more range, and with stabilisation. I chose not to choose. So I have both. They excel in different areas. I like the 24-70 in low light, but I use the 24-105 more often outside, especially during portrait sessions. The 24-105 is a very nice portrait range on the 1.3x crop of the 1Dmk3.
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS
The 70-200mm is an indispensable range. The stabilisation just makes it an even easier decision to own this lens. It is heavy, but nothing else comes close. The f4 optic might be a good choice too, especially if your budget is limited, but in the end, the faster optic is what I need for my work.
