the Workshops

The workshop is one full day, and will focus on practical how-to advice in achieving the best results when using on-camera flash in a variety of lighting situations, both indoors and out.

Using a combination of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice for the attendees, this workshop will help photographers refine their flash technique so that they achieve more consistent and predictable results.

A brief summary of the days topics includes:

  • White Balance settings
  • TTL / Auto flash .. vs .. manual flash
  • Exposure metering for ambient light
  • Implications of flash sync speed
  • Flash modes available with camera systems
  • Adding fill-flash to available light outdoors
  • Flash indoors
  • Directional bounce flash
  • Flash modifiers – uses & limitations
  • Dragging the shutter
  • Tungsten light & flash
  • Wireless TTL flash
  • Using strobes for portraits, and small studio set-ups

The number of attendees will be limited, so that everyone can participate and ask questions during the practical/hands-on part of the workshop.

The first part of the workshop starts at 9 a.m. and will continue until approximately 5pm. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

We will break for dinner at 5 p.m. and reconvene at 7 p.m. promptly for the night-time lighting section of the workshop.

Part two of the workshop will last approximately 2 hours, ending at 9 p.m. or until all questions have been answered.

Models will be provided for both parts of the event to allow all participants a chance to put into practice what they have learned.
