For photographers who live in or are visiting NYC / northern NJ area, I offer individual tutoring sessions on a one-on-one basis.
These sessions take place in my home-office, which is in Wayne, NJ 07470.
My availability is based on my schedule. For 2008, tutoring sessions will be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays only. (Some limited sessions may be available on other days of the week or on weekends, but these are rare, as I photograph 40+ weddings a year, in addition to my workshop and travel schedule.)
Each individual tutoring session lasts 3 hours. The price of the session is $250.
Sessions that run longer than 3 hours will be billed at $100 per additional hour.
Possible topics to cover include all aspects of flash and digital photography, including but not limited to:
- camera and flash essentials
- exposure metering
- basic lighting
- lighting formals (for wedding photographers)
- outdoor lighting including fill flash and high speed sync
It’s important to note that these sessions are not master-classes in lighting or photography. They are personalized sessions that are intended to help photographers with specific aspects where they might be struggling.
The goal of the session is to answer specific questions or provide answers to specific challenges that each photographer is facing. Once a photographer signs up for a tutoring session, I will email a worksheet with a short list of questions that will determine his or her level of technical and camera knowledge. There will also be space for the photographer to to ask particular questions or mention issues he or she is facing. Photographers are also encouraged to send images (websized jpegs) that might provide insight into their needs. Having this information will allow me to personalize the tutoring session to make the most of the time available.
A certain level of fundamental technical knowledge is required for the sessions to be successful. For example, a photographer should know the basic operation and controls of his or her camera, how to read the camera’s built in metering display, the basic relationship of aperture / shutter speed / ISO, and how to manually adjust those settings. If a photographer requires tutoring on these fundamental concepts, then an additional hour will be required (for a total of 4 hours at $350).
